Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Kulkamish, Southwest Gissar. X.X. Mirkamalov, M.E. Egamberdyev, 1969 (300, p.66). Stratotype near the village of Kulkamish. Lower-Middle formation (2 of 5) of the Kamprek Gr. The Kulkamysh suite is part of the Karakuz Horizon

Synonym: Kulkamyshskaya Suite, Кулькамышская св. Kulkamish Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Conglomerates, gravelites, sandstones with layers of clays and shell limestones. Thickness 10-20m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies with erosion on the Kaligrek Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Charshangan Fm.

Regional extent

Southwest Gissar, Bukhara-Karshinsky district. Corresponds to the lower part of the Karakuz Fm.

Contains ammonites - Acanthohoplites nolani Seun; marine bivalve mollusks - Pterotrigonia aliformis Park.; brachiopods Praelongithyris dutempleana Orb.; foraminifers - Verneuilina vinokurovae Zhuk., Gaudryina gazliensis Zhuk.


Age 

It belongs to the upper Aptian (A. nolani zone).
